Workforce Transformation During the Pandemic: Re-Skilling Workers

Moderated discussion

Panelists:
Joe Garcia, Ph.D., Head, Global Talent Management and Organizational Effectiveness, The Home Depot
Valerie Norton, Chief People Officer, Habitat for Humanity International

During the pandemic, employers have discovered the shifting need for skills to be effective in the current landscape. Defining and adopting new ways of working has been the top priority to maintain a safe and engaging working environment, drive profitability, and retain highly-skilled workforces. Despite initial resistance of some employers, many organizations have created new ways of leading the way in talent development, and up-skilling current workforces, while expanding talent capabilities globally. Both organizations and employees must continue to forge ahead in company and personal development to support the constant change in the way we work. Many traditional models of work have become obsolete and have left many organizations scrambling to find solutions. The training and skill need to transcend across every industry and scope of work. Many companies are adventuring into the world of automation and AI to build the depth of skills needed. Employees must also venture into non-traditional avenues to acquire new skills and abilities that will support viability. Companies should craft a talent strategy that develops employees in areas such as Emotional Intelligence (EQ), Intelligence Quotient (IQ), virtual technologies, cognitive development, social awareness, and persistence. Learning and development teams are at an all-time high demand and organizations who chose to invest in their people now will solidify their posture for future success and absorb the challenges and pressures of possible future disruptions. In this session, we will discuss how HR leaders can support and lead their organizations through this change, while leveraging current HR strategies in place, and making the right investments that will lead to desired returns and stakeholder satisfaction.
