Hotdogs and Ice Cream: Crafting the Authentic Culture Story

Michelle Hairston, SVP/CHRO of PulteGroup, Member HRLF Board of Directors & Chad Strickland, Co-Founder NICH +Culture

Today's talent marketplace has never been more challenging. With more jobs open than ever before and a complete upheaval in job mobility, organizations are scrambling to find and retain top talent.

Expectations have changed for workers: what attracts candidates, inspires retention, and motivates discretionary effort looks completely different today. Competitive pay and benefits offerings are foundational. The primary differentiator now is organizational culture. Even those companies with a great culture can fall behind if they fail to communicate it authentically and effectively.

Using Pulte as a case study, Chad and Michelle will share the framework of creating and communicating a compelling Culture Story. They will then explore the methodology of discovering and articulating something that is meaningful, authentic, and memorable. Lastly, they will highlight how the culture story can be used effectively both internally and externally to attract, inspire and retain top talent.

Health & Safety

Ensuring the health and well-being of our members is very important to us as we take this next step. Our commitment to our members includes following all government and host venue guidelines to ensure your safety as well as providing a larger meeting space for more social distancing.

To attend an in-person event, we request that attendees are fully vaccinated (2 vaccines at least 14 days prior to attending), that they have not experienced any COVID-19 symptoms, tested positive, are awaiting test results, or had any contact with someone who has COVID-19 within the 5 days prior to the meeting.

Masks are encouraged, but not required at any of our host venues. Our roundtable hosts may change the requirements to visit their facility and as such, we may need to modify these requirements as we move forward.

By attending these in-person events, there is an assumption of risk which includes:

  1. Your participation in an in-person event includes the possibility of being exposed to and becoming ill from an infectious disease including COVID-19. This exposure risk can be reduced by taking individual responsibility to protect yourself, but the risk of serious illness and death does exist.
  2. You assume all risks related to illness and infectious disease, even if it arises from the negligence or fault of the HRLF, event host, or venue.
  3. You knowingly assume these risks including the risk of injury, harm, or loss that may be caused through negligence, fault, or conduct of the HRLF, host, or venue.
